What a ceramic coating actually is
A ceramic coating is a liquid, silica-based (SiO₂) protective layer that chemically bonds to your clear coat and cures into a hard, glossy, water-repelling shell. Unlike wax or a sealant, it doesn't sit on the paint — it becomes part of the surface. That's why a properly installed coating lasts years instead of weeks.

Here's what a coating realistically does for a vehicle that lives in Middle Tennessee:
- Makes washing dramatically easier. Pollen, road film, and bug residue release with far less effort, and water sheets off instead of drying in spots.
- Protects against chemical etching. Bird droppings, bug guts, and tree sap have a hard layer to fight through before they reach your clear coat.
- Resists UV fading and oxidation. Tennessee sun is relentless on dark paint. A coating buys years.
- Locks in gloss. The depth you see the day the coating is installed is the depth you keep — assuming the paint was corrected first.
What it does not do (honest version)
Anyone who tells you a coating makes your paint scratch-proof is selling something. A ceramic coating is hard, but it is microns thin. It will not stop rock chips, door dings, deep key scratches, or an automatic car wash brush loaded with grit. It also doesn't fix existing swirl marks or scratches — it seals in whatever is underneath, which is exactly why prep matters.
Think of it as the difference between a great raincoat and body armor. It makes daily life with your car easier and keeps it looking new far longer. It doesn't make it invincible.
Why paint correction usually comes first
A coating locks in the condition of your paint on installation day. If the paint has swirl marks from years of car washes, those swirls get sealed under a hard layer for the next three years. That's why most coating jobs on anything but a brand-new vehicle should start with at least a light paint correction — a machine-polishing step that removes swirls, haze, and light scratches so you're coating clean, glossy paint.
When you text for a quote, we'll ask about the paint's condition and, if needed, look at it in person before recommending correction. New or well-kept vehicles often need only a light enhancement polish. A dark daily driver from a dealership lot usually needs more. You'll get a straight answer either way.

- Fixing rock chips or deep scratches — that's a body shop
What affects the price
Ceramic coating is quoted per vehicle, not from a flat price list. The three things that move the number:
- Vehicle size. A Miata and a Suburban are very different days of work.
- Paint condition. How much correction the paint needs before it's ready to coat.
- Your goals. Some clients want the paint only; some want wheels and glass done at the same time.
Text us the vehicle and a photo or two and you'll have a real number quickly. We don't quote high and discount — we quote what the job is.
How the day goes
- You text or book. We confirm the vehicle, the paint condition, and a date.
- We arrive. Home, office, or wherever the vehicle sits. Leave the keys — you don't need to be there.
- Wash, decontaminate, correct. This is most of the day. Coating takes an hour; prep takes the rest.
- Coat and level. Panel by panel under inspection lighting.
- Walkthrough. You see the result before you pay — that's how every Hitchcock job works.
Plan for the vehicle to be with us most of a day, and avoid washing it for the first week so the coating fully cures.
After the coating: keep it working
A coated vehicle is easy to maintain — but it still needs maintaining. Wash it with a pH-neutral shampoo, avoid automatic brush washes, and dry it rather than letting it air-dry in the sun. Most coated clients put the car on a monthly maintenance plan so the coating is washed correctly and inspected every visit; it's the single best way to get the full lifespan out of it.

The GYEON coatings we install are rated for up to 3 years of protection per application. Real-world lifespan depends on how the vehicle is washed and stored; a coated car on a monthly maintenance plan gets the full life out of it.

It makes them far less likely and far easier to remove, because water beads and sheets off instead of drying flat. It doesn't make water spots impossible — hard Middle Tennessee well water left to dry in direct sun can still mineral-spot a coated car, which is why we say dry it, don't let it air-dry.
